Wintergreen is a group of aromatic plants. The term "wintergreen" once commonly referred to plants that remain green (continue photosynthesis) throughout the winter. The term "evergreen" is now more commonly used for this characteristic. Wintergreen essential oil is usually obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of the plant following maceration in warm water.

Oil properties: Analgesic, Antirheumatic And Antiarthritic, Antispasmodic, Antiseptic, Aromatic, And Astringent Properties. It Also Acts As A Carminative, Diuretic, And Emenagogue.

Chemical composition: The main chemical components of  winter green oil are methyl salicylate (about 98%), a-pinene, myrcene, delta-3-carene, limonene, 3,7-guaiadiene, and delta-cadinene.

Precautions: Do not use yarrow oil during pregnancy. Prolonged use may cause headaches and may irritate sensitive skin.

Uses

• Wintergreen oil is used topically (diluted) or aroma  theraputically as a folk remedy for muscle and joint discomfort, arthritis, cellulite, obesity, edema,poor circulation, headache, heartdisease, hypertension, rheumatism, tendinitis, cramps, inflammation, eczema, hair care, psoriasis, gout, ulcers, and broken or bruised bones
  • Wintergreen leaf is used for painful conditions including headache, nerve pain(particularly sciatica), arthritis, ovarian pain, and menstrual cramps. It is also used for digestion problems including stomachache and gas (flatulence); lung conditions including asthma and pleurisy; pain and swelling (inflammation); fever; and kidneyproblems.
  • Wintergreen oil is applied to the skin as a “counterirritant” to relieve muscle pain. Counterirritants work by causing irritation that reduces pain and swelling in the underlying tissue. Wintergreen oil is also used to kill germs on the skin.

Bergamot, Basil, Cypress, Geranium, Lavender, Lemongrass, Marjoram, and Peppermint essential oils
