Botanical Name : Vanilla planifolia

Vanilla oil is derived from Vanilla planifolia, a native species of the Orchidaceae family, with large climbing vines and clusters of yellow-green flowers that turn into fragrant brown-colored pods.

OIL PROPERTIES

It is an antioxidant, aphrodisiac, anticarcinogenic, febrifuge, antidepressant, sedative, tranquilizing and relaxing substance.

 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

The main chemical components are vanillin and numerous traces of other constituents such as eugenol, caproic acid etc.

PRECAUTIONS

It is a non-toxic oil, but is not normally used in aromatherapy.

THERAPEUTIC PROPERTIES

The therapeutic properties are  Contains Antioxidant Properties which can help prevent certain types of cell damages,it boosts libido and also regularizes menstruation and relieves PMS symptoms. It also prevents growth of cancer cells. It fights infections and acts as an anti-depressent.

USES

• Vanilla oil is used as a flavoring agent in pharmaceutical products, in food and in tobacco and is also an ingredient in some oriental type perfumes.
• Cooking – as a flavoring ingredient in ice cream, milk, candies, desserts, and in almost every food product imaginable

• Pharmaceutical and chemical industries – to manufacture drugs for the treatment of Parkinson's (L-dopa), hypertension (methyldopa), and heart problems (papaverine)

• Perfumery – Francois Coty, who is known to be one the greatest perfumers of modern times, used vanilla in L'Aimant in 1927. Afterwards, vanilla became a staple scent in 23 percent of all quality fragrances.

The essential oil of vanilla blends well with the essential oils of Orange, Lemon, Neroli, Jojoba, Chamomile, Lavender and Sandal Wood
